Al-Anon Announcement from Intergroup June 2009

Meeting List publication is on hiatus for the present. The office is in the process of moving to our new location. We are suspending publication for the near future. Once we are settled in our new location we will resume working to publish the next Meeting List. The website has the most reliable source for time and location of meetings. Thank you for your patience and support during this period.

Please read the following during “Al-Anon Announcements” and pass around the Intergroup Fact Sheet

Remember when you were a first timer and found your first meeting? Economic times are tough, and New York City Al-Anon Family Intergroup needs your help to stay on course with the Al-Anon message of “Let it begin with me”.

NYC Al-Anon Intergroup is supported by your donations, which help us to reach out to the large NYC community that doesn’t know about the value of Al-Anon.  Our Fact Sheet lists the things we provide to NYC that individual groups cannot. Intergroup is the first point of contact for those, like yourself, who have searched for a way to cope with the family disease of Alcoholism.  For everyone, including wives, husbands, fathers, mothers and teenagers (for our Alateen program), “let it begin with me” is a way for all of us to practice our program so that our outreach can continue.

The economic downturn has hit us hard.  We are asking you to show your support to our Reach-Out programs by making a donation to Intergroup. (As a matter of record, we receive no funding whatsoever from World Services.)

A donation of $10, $20, or $40 will allow us to continue to provide vital links to recovery for all who seek them.  With your help, we also provide free literature to approved Alateen meetings in New York City.  Donations to New York City Al-Anon Family Intergroup are tax deductable.

For your donation of $50 or more, you will receive free access to all NY Intergroup dances, share-a-days and workshops for one year.
As an alternative, we encourage you to make a “constant giving” donation to Intergroup of $5/month on your credit card.  We accept donations through the NYCharities link on our website, www.nycalanon.org.

There are many people like you in NYC who are affected deeply by the rampages of family alcoholism. We want to get the word out to as many hospitals, schools, prisons and other public and private institutions about the value that Al-Anon can have in their lives.  We do this through direct contact and donating literature.
We need you to help us through our tough times by making a donation.  Help us to bring exposure to all ages and to help teens through our Alateen program.

GREATER NEW YORK AL-ANON FAMILY INTERGROUP FACT SHEET

What is Intergroup?
The Greater New York Al-Anon Family Intergroup, Inc., (“Intergroup”) is New York City’s Al-Anon information center.

What does Intergroup do?
Intergroup provides vital services to New Yorkers in the five boroughs of New York who are affected by the family disease of alcoholism.

Intergroup

  • Is often the first contact for first-timers.

  • Coordinates communication between all of the different meetings in NYC through its system of Intergroup Representatives (“IRs”).
  • Brings together members through Share-A-Days, dances and other activities.

How can get involved?

  • Support Intergroup with a contribution.
    • Ask your meeting to make a regular contribution to Intergroup
    • Purchase literature from us.
